How I Work with Military Veterans?
In my work with veterans, I use a trauma-informed Human Givens approach, with the Rewind Technique offered where appropriate. Sessions are carefully paced and grounded in safety, helping you settle into a calm state before any trauma processing takes place. You are never asked to relive events or describe them in detail. Instead, the focus is on reducing the emotional charge held in the nervous system, so past experiences no longer intrude into the present.
This approach is particularly effective for those who want practical results without long-term exposure-based therapy. Many clients notice meaningful improvements in a relatively small number of sessions, including reduced anxiety, improved sleep, and a greater sense of control in daily life. Alongside trauma work, I also help you develop tools to manage stress, regulate strong emotions, and rebuild confidence — supporting not only recovery, but long-term emotional resilience.
Low-cost therapy is offered on this page to ensure that veterans, reservists, and their families can access timely, effective support when it is most needed.
Evidence for the Rewind Technique with Veterans.
A recent NHS-led study published in BMJ Military Health has provided peer-reviewed evidence supporting the effectiveness of the Rewind Technique for treating post-traumatic stress in military veterans. The study was carried out by Veterans’ NHS Wales within Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, and involved veterans receiving an average of just three sessions using the technique.
The findings showed significant reductions not only in PTSD symptoms, but also in associated difficulties such as depression and sleep disturbance. Importantly, the approach allowed traumatic memories to be processed without requiring detailed verbal disclosure, which many veterans find safer and more manageable.
The Rewind Technique was originally developed by Dr David Muss and has been refined and used for over two decades within Human Givens therapy. This refined version is a core part of the work carried out by PTSD Resolution, a UK charity that has supported thousands of veterans, reservists, and family members since 2009. Their long-term data closely mirrors the NHS findings, showing high completion rates and rapid, lasting improvements, often in fewer sessions than traditional trauma-focused therapies.
The authors of the NHS study suggest that the Rewind Technique could be used as a first-line intervention for PTSD, helping to reduce waiting times while delivering effective outcomes.
